Potato skins are a classic American appetizer that perfectly captures the essence of comfort food. Crispy and loaded with cheesy goodness, they make for a delightful snack or party dish. This recipe allows you to enjoy a tasty treat that is both simple to prepare and incredibly satisfying. Let’s dive into the steps to create these delicious bites!
Ingredients
- 4-6 small potatoes
- 100 g cheddar cheese (or another semi-hard cheese)
- Several slices of bacon
- 50 g sour cream
- A few sprigs of green onion
- Vegetable oil
Method
- Prepare the Potatoes: Start by thoroughly washing the potatoes, ensuring not to peel them. Coat them with vegetable oil and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30-40 minutes until they are tender. Once done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly.
- Scoop Out the Flesh: When the potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut each potato in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to scoop out most of the flesh, leaving a thin layer of potato on the skin. You can use the scooped-out potato for mashed potatoes or other dishes.
- Crisp the Skins: Brush the inside of each potato skin with a little oil and return them to the oven for an additional 7-10 minutes, until they are crisp and golden.
- Cook the Bacon: While the skins are baking, fry the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Once cooked, chop it into small pieces.
- Assemble the Skins: Remove the potato skins from the oven. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese into each skin, followed by the chopped bacon. Return the skins to the oven for another 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt.
- Serve: Once the cheese has melted, take the potato skins out of the oven. Top each with a spoonful of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped green onions for garnish.
Enjoy these tasty potato skins as a delightful snack or appetizer at your next gathering!
