Wild Rice Pilaf is a hearty and flavorful dish that brings together the nutty taste of wild rice with the savory goodness of vegetables and meat. This versatile pilaf can be served as a side dish or a main course, making it perfect for family dinners or gatherings. With a combination of spices and textures, it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 250 grams wild rice (or a mix of wild and white rice)
- 500 grams pork tenderloin (or your choice of protein)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 carrot, grated
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Dried spices (for pilaf, to taste)
- 700 milliliters water
- 50 milliliters vegetable oil
Method
- Start by washing and drying the meat, and peel the vegetables.
- Dice the onion finely and grate the carrot. Cut the pork into 1.5 to 2 cm cubes.
- In a multi-cooker, heat the vegetable oil on the sauté setting. Add the pork and brown it on all sides. Then, add the chopped onion, grated carrot, and spices. Cook with the lid off, stirring occasionally. This should take about 15 to 25 minutes, depending on your multi-cooker model.
- Add the wild rice and water to the mixture. Close the lid and set the multi-cooker to the pilaf mode for 20 minutes (adjust according to your model). Use this time to relax or prepare a side salad.
- Once cooking is complete, let the pilaf sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Fluff it up, garnish if desired, and enjoy!
TIPS: If you are cooking without a multi-cooker, you can follow the same steps in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven. The sautéing will be quicker on the stovetop, but the rice cooking time will be similar—just be attentive to prevent burning.
