Its name translates to “pick me up,” which perfectly describes the uplifting effect of its coffee-infused goodness. Make this classic treat for a special gathering or simply to indulge yourself!
Ingredients
- 300 grams ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- 50 grams dark chocolate (for grating)
For the Cream Filling:
- 500 grams mascarpone cheese
- 4 large eggs (fresh)
- 8 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
For the Coffee Mixture:
- 500 ml brewed coffee (strong)
- 30 ml coffee liqueur
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
For Garnishing:
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Dark chocolate shavings (optional)
- Coffee beans (optional)
Method
- Begin by brewing a strong pot of coffee. Once brewed, combine it with the tablespoon of sugar and the coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Allow the coffee mixture to cool to room temperature.
- In a mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the whites. Add the granulated sugar to the egg yolks and whisk them together until the mixture is thick, pale, and creamy. This should take about 4-5 minutes.
- Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until it is smooth and fully incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, mixing well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Carefully fold a small amount of the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture to lighten it, then gently fold in the rest of the egg whites, being careful not to deflate them.
- Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom of a rectangular or square serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
- Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone cream.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Before serving, remove the tiramisu from the refrigerator and dust the top generously with cocoa powder. Optionally, garnish with dark chocolate shavings or coffee beans.
- Slice into portions and serve chilled. Enjoy the classic flavors of this delightful Tiramisu!
