Caprese salad is a simple yet delicious Italian dish that highlights the fresh flavors of its ingredients. With ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil, it’s a perfect choice for a light and refreshing meal or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 125 g mozzarella cheese
- 150 g cherry tomatoes (or 2 large tomatoes)
- 2 green onions
- 2 salad leaves
- 1 sprig of basil
- 1 sprig of dill
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Black pepper to taste
- Salt to taste
Method
- Prepare the Ingredients: Cut the cherry tomatoes in half. If using large tomatoes, dice them into small cubes. Drain the mozzarella to remove excess liquid. If using small mozzarella balls, cut each in half. If using a large ball, cut it into small cubes.
- Prepare the Herbs: Tear the basil leaves into strips. Slice the green onions into rings. Remove the thick stems from the dill and finely chop the remaining leaves.
- Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, combine the balsamic vinegar and lemon juice. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper, then whisk in the olive oil until the mixture is well combined.
- Assemble the Salad: In a salad bowl, mix the tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, green onions, and dill. Tear the salad leaves and add them to the bowl.
- Dress and Serve: Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat all ingredients. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh flavors.
For an extra touch of flavor, consider adding finely chopped red onion marinated in balsamic vinegar for 5 minutes before mixing it into the salad. If using large tomatoes, ensure they are firm and not overly juicy; remove excess seeds and pulp if necessary. Enjoy your fresh and vibrant Caprese salad!
